If there is one thing we love here at CubeThink, it is NASCAR Racing!  Football Season is now over (at least until the NFL Draft), so we now get our engines Fired Up by watching those Good Ole Boys rumble around a track and trade some paint going for the Green Flag!

We want to share our excitement of NASCAR Racing by giving you our weekly Racing Picks.  Of course, we would love to hear what you think about our guesses.  Please drop us a note with your feedback at

Food City 500
Race:  5  of  36  (March 21, 2010)

Location:   Bristol Motor Speedway
                    Bristol, Tennessee

Track:  0.533 mile;  Oval;
              Short Track Raceway

Green Flag:  Sunday, 1:13pm EST

Race Distance:    266.5 miles
                              500 laps

TV:  Fox Sports - 1:00pm

Radio:  PRN Radio - 12:00pm

Front Row:    Joey Logano
                        Kurt Busch

2009 Winner:  Kyle Busch

Cube Thought:  Day or Night, there is nothing like a Race at Bristol.  The Colors, the Sounds, the Excitement, the Racing, for every Race Fan, Bristol is it.  It takes a certain type of Race Car Driver to Win at Bristol.  You must know how to use the Gas Pedal, the Brake Pedal, the Wall and Yes, Other Cars, in Order to Win at Bristol.  It also takes nerves of Steel, plus a little bit of Insanity.  One Driver Won both Bristol Races last Season and 3 of the last 5 Races.  He is Our Pick this Week.

Cube Pick:  Kyle Busch  X     Jimmie Johnson

Food City 500
Bristol Motor Speedway
52nd Daytona 500
Race:  1  of  36  (February 14, 2010)

Location:   Daytona International Speedway
                    Daytona Beach, Florida

Track:  2.5 mile;  Tri-Oval;  Superspeedway

Green Flag:  Sunday, 1:19pm EST

Race Distance:    500 miles
                              200 laps

TV:  Fox Sports - 1:00pm

Radio:  MRN Radio - 12:00pm

Front Row:    Mark Martin
                        Dale Earnhardt Jr.

2009 Winner:  Matt Kenseth

Cube Thought:  As Darrell Waltrip says at the start of each Race, "Let's Go Racing Boys!"  The 52nd Annual "Great American Race" the Daytona 500 kicks have the NASCAR Season on Sunday and we can not wait!  The usual suspects of Mark Martin, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Jimmy Johnson Line-Up in the First 2 Rows, but look out for the #6 Starter, Tony "Smoke" Stewart in this one.  If Stewart does not find himself in Victory Circle, we would not be surprised to see Juan Pablo Montoya.

Cube Pick:  Tony Stewart  X     Jamie McMurray

Daytona 500

Daytona International Speedway

Auto Club 500
Race:  2  of  36  (February 21, 2010)

Location:   Auto Club Speedway
                    Fontana, California

Track:  2.0 mile;  D-Shaped Oval;
              Superspeedway

Green Flag:  Sunday, 3:16pm EST

Race Distance:    500 miles
                              250 laps

TV:  Fox Sports - 3:00pm

Radio:  MRN Radio - 2:00pm

Front Row:    Jamie McMurray
                        Juan Pablo Montoya

2009 Winner:  Matt Kenseth

Cube Thought:  Let's use a Process of Elimination to Predict who will Win the Auto Club 500.  First, a Good Run at Daytona usually carries through to Fontana.  So, the Top 10 Finisher's at Daytona have a Shot.  Second, Ford's have Won 6 of the Last 7 Auto Club 500's.  3 Ford's Finished in the Top 10 at Daytona.  Third, Roush Fenway Cars have Won 6 of the Last 7 Auto Club 500's.  Those are the same 3 Ford's.  So, Greg Biffle, Matt Kenseth, or Carl Edwards will Win this Sunday.  Our Vote Biff!

Cube Pick:  Greg Biffle  X     Jimmie Johnson

Auto Club 500

Auto Club Speedway

Shelby American
Race:  3  of  36  (February 28, 2010)

Location:   Las Vegas Motor Speedway
                    Las Vegas, Nevada

Track:  1.5 mile;  D-Shaped Oval;
              Intermediate Raceway

Green Flag:  Sunday, 3:16pm EST

Race Distance:    400.5 miles
                              267 laps

TV:  Fox Sports - 3:00pm

Radio:  PRN Radio - 2:00pm

Front Row:    Kurt Busch
                        Jeff Gordon

2009 Winner:  Kyle Busch

Cube Thought:  Let's Roll the Dice!  It is NASCAR in Vegas Baby!  In a city that is known for Conventions and Attractions, this is the most popular event every year.  I have been to this Race and I can tell you that it is a fun time.  Since 1998 a Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, and Toyota have all Crossed the Finish Line first.  So, anyone can Win this Race.  But, Home Cooking does make a difference.  This is the Hometown of Kurt and Kyle Busch and one of the Bro's will Finish First in this one.

Cube Pick:  Kyle Busch  X     Jimmie Johnson

Shelby American

Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Kobalt Tools 500
Race:  4  of  36  (March 7, 2010)

Location:   Atlanta Motor Speedway
                    Hampton, Georgia

Track:  1.54 mile;  Quad Oval;
              Intermediate Raceway

Green Flag:  Sunday, 1:16pm EST

Race Distance:    500.5 miles
                              325 laps

TV:  Fox Sports - 1:00pm

Radio:  PRN Radio - 12:00pm

Front Row:    Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
                        Kyle Busch

2009 Winner:  Kurt Busch

Cube Thought:  This weekend the NASCAR Sprint Cup Caravan Rolls onto the "Very Fast" Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Kobalt Tools 500.  What is fun about Atlanta is that just about anyone can Win there.  Three Races into this Season and Chevrolet has Won All Three, so it is hard to go against a Chevy in this One.  Jimmie Johnson has Won the Last 2 Races, but the Gut says he will not Cross the Line first on Sunday.  Look for Kevin Harvick to notch his First Victory in 2010.

Cube Pick:  Kevin Harvick  X     Kurt Busch

Kobalt Tools 500
Atlanta Motor Speedway

Goody's Pain Relief 500
Race:  6  of  36  (March 28, 2010)

Location:   Martinsville Speedway
                    Martinsville, Virginia

Track:  0.526 mile;  Oval;
              Short Track Raceway

Green Flag:  Sunday, 1:13pm EST

Race Distance:    263.0 miles
                              500 laps

TV:  Fox Sports - 1:00pm

Radio:  MRN Radio - 12:00pm

Front Row:    Kevin Harvick
                        Matt Kenseth

2009 Winner:  Jimmie Johnson

Cube Thought:  How do you go against Jimmie Johnson in this one?  He has Won 5 of the last 8 Races at Martinsville.  He has Won 6 of the last 12 Races at Martinsville.  He has Won 3 of the 5 Races this Season.  His best Competition in this one may be Jeff Gordon who has Finished in First 7 Times at Martinsville.  But Jeff may have to be content with 2nd Place on Sunday.

Cube Pick:  Jimmie Johnson  X     Denny Hamlin

Goody's Fast Pain Relief 500
Martinsville Speedway

Subway Fresh Fit 600
Race:  7  of  36  (April 10, 2010)

Location:   Phoenix International Raceway
                    Avondale, Arizona

Track:  1.0 mile;  Tri-Oval;
              Short Track Raceway

Green Flag:  Saturday, 7:44pm EST

Race Distance:    375.0 miles (600km)
                              375 laps

TV:  Fox Sports - 7:30pm

Radio:  MRN Radio - 6:30pm

Front Row:    A. J. Allmendinger
                        Scott Speed

2009 Winner:  Mark Martin

Cube Thought:  There is nothing like a NASCAR Night Race and on Saturday, Phoenix International Raceway hosts the first Sprint Cup Series Night Race of the Season.  Phoenix is one of those Quirky Tracks but that does not seem to be a problem for Hendrick Motorsports.  Hendrick Cars have Won the Last 6 Races at Phoenix with Jimmie Johnson taking 4 of those.  So who do we think will Finish 1st in the Desert Saturday Night?  That answer is Penske / Dodge Drive, Kurt Busch.

Cube Pick:  Kurt Busch  X     Ryan Newman

Subway Fresh Fit 600
Phoenix International Raceway

Samsung Mobile 500
Race:  8  of  36  (April 18, 2010)

Location:   Texas Motor Speedway
                    Fort Worth, Texas

Track:  1.5 mile;  Quad Oval;
              Intermediate Raceway

Green Flag:  Sunday, 3:16pm EST

Race Distance:    501.0 miles
                              334 laps

TV:  Fox Sports - 3:00pm

Radio:  PRN Radio - 2:00pm

Front Row:    Tony Stewart
                        Sam Hornish Jr.

2009 Winner:  Jeff Gordon

Cube Thought:  The Good Ole Boys head into Texas this weekend where the track is Fast, Fun, and Furious.  NASCAR has been racing at the Texas Motor Speedway since 1997 and the Track has become a Favorite of Fans and Drivers alike.  Since 1997 there have been 18 Cup Races and 15 different Winners, so it is hard to pick a Favorite in this One.  Jeff Gordon Won this Race Last Year, he is # 5  in the Points so far this Season and we think he will get his First "W" in 2010 this Weekend.

Cube Pick:  Jeff Gordon  X     Denny Hamlin

Samsung Mobile 500
Texas Motor Speedway
Aaron's 499
Race:  9  of  36  (April 25, 2010)

Location:   Talladega Superspeedway
                    Talladega, Alabama

Track:  2.66 mile;  Tri-Oval;
              Superspeedway

Green Flag:  Sunday, 1:19pm EST

Race Distance:    500.0 miles
                              188 laps

TV:  Fox Sports - 1:00pm

Radio:  MRN Radio - 12:00pm

Front Row:    Jimmie Johnson
                        Matt Kenseth

2009 Winner:  Brad Keselowski

Cube Thought:  When you hear the words "Stock Car Racing", your mind automatically pictures Cars making left hand turns at tracks like Bristol, Darlington, and of course, Talladega.  Talladega is the Biggest and most Bad of them all.  To Win at "Dega" your Car has to be Fast, the Set-Up has to be Perfect, and you cannot be afraid to Drive Inches apart all the way around.  The guy we like this weekend is a 5-Time Dega Winner and is quietly having a solid season - Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Cube Pick:  Dale Earnhardt Jr.  X     Kevin Harvick

Aaron's 499
Talladega Superspeedway
Crown Royal Presents the Heath Calhoun 400
Race:  10  of  36  (May 1, 2010)

Location:   Richmond International Raceway
                    Richmond, Virginia

Track:  0.75 mile;  D-Shaped Oval;
              Short Track Raceway

Green Flag:  Saturday, 7:44pm EST

Race Distance:    300.0 miles
                              400 laps

TV:  Fox Sports - 7:30pm

Radio:  MRN Radio - 6:30pm

Front Row:    Kyle Busch
                        David Reutimann

2009 Winner:  Kyle Busch

Cube Thought:  No doubt about it, Richmond International Raceway, under the lights, it is one of our favorites.  You can always count on a fun and competitive race when the NASCAR Boys go to Richmond.  The past 4 Races have had 4 Different Winners, so the Hot Driver going into the Race does not always walk away the Winner.  Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch are always tough here, but, we think that Tony Stewart gets his first Checkered Flag of the Season in this one.

Cube Pick:  Tony Stewart  X     Kyle Busch

Crown Royal Presents The Heath Calhoun 400
Richmond International Raceway
Showtime Southern 500
Race:  11  of  36  (May 8, 2010)

Location:   Darlington Raceway
                    Darlington, South Carolina

Track:  1.366 mile;  Oval;
              Intermediate Raceway

Green Flag:  Saturday, 7:45pm EST

Race Distance:    501.3 miles
                              367 laps

TV:  Fox Sports - 7:30pm

Radio:  MRN Radio - 6:30pm

Front Row:    Jamie McMurray
                        Jeff Gordon

2009 Winner:  Mark Martin

Cube Thought:  "The Lady in Black" or "The Track Too Tough to Tame", well, it does not matter, this is Darlington Baby!  In NASCAR Racing, this is the Wrigley Field or Fenway Park.  You can just see the Old-Timers working Their Way around the Track.  This should be a fun one on Saturday Night.  2 Time Winner Jimmie Johnson and 2008 Winner Kyle Busch should be in contention, but we think that      7 Time Winner Jeff Gordon will get his First "W" in 2010 on Saturday Night!

Cube Pick:  Jeff Gordon  X     Denny Hamlin

Radio:  MRN Radio - 12:00pm

Front Row:    Martin Truex Jr.
                        Kasey Kahne

2009 Winner:  Jimmie Johnson

Cube Thought:  The NASCAR Road Show hits the Pavement, sorry, Concrete, at the Dover International Speedway "Monster Mile" this weekend.  The Two Races every Season in Dover are Always Fun and it is Usually the Smart Driver Who Saves His Tires that Wins at this Track.  And One of the Smartest Drivers - Well that would be 5-Time Dover Winner, Jimmie Johnson.  Can you believe that it was way back in Week 5 that Johnson Last Won a Race?  Well, that drought ends on Sunday!

Cube Pick:  Jimmie Johnson  X     Kyle Busch

TV:  TNT - 1:00pm

Radio:  MRN Radio - 12:00pm

Front Row:    Kurt Busch
                        Jamie McMurray

2009 Winner:  Mark Martin

Cube Thought:  The NASCAR Boys visit the High Banked and Wide Track Michigan International Speedway this weekend as the Race to the Chase starts to Heat Up.  This Track allows a Driver to pick a Line that Fits his Car Best and is known for Long Green Flag Runs, so that means Fast Pit Stops are a must.  Ford Drivers have not Won a Race this Season, but that should Change on Sunday.  Carl Edwards is a 2-Time Winner and always Touch at this Track and will Cross the Line First.

Cube Pick:  Carl Edwards  X     Denny Hamlin

Radio:  PRN Radio - 5:00pm

Front Row:    Ryan Newman
                        Kurt Busch

2009 Winner:  David Reutimann

Cube Thought:  For a Race Fan, one of the best days of the year is the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend.  Your day starts with lunch and the Indianapolis 500,   "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing."  The fun continues later with dinner and the Coca-Cola 600.  Ah, what a day!  Well, you cannot Win the 600 unless you are around at the end, so you have to be smart and save your equipment.  And, one of the best Drivers to do just that is 6-Time Charlotte Winner, Jimmie Johnson.

Cube Pick:  Jimmie Johnson  X     Kurt Busch

                        Clint Bowyer

2009 Winner:  Tony Stewart

Cube Thought:  The Sprint Cup Teams head to the beautiful Pocono Mountains this weekend for a visit to one of the most unique tracks on the Sprint Cup Circuit, Pocono Raceway.  This track with 3 Straight-a-Ways and 3 Different Corners makes it Challenging to find a Good Set-Up and is Hard on the Tires, Equipment, and Drivers.  Denny Hamlin is always Good at Pocono and Kurt Busch comes in Hot after his Win Last Week, but the Guy that needs this Win the Most is Tony Stewart.

Cube Thought:  The Sprint Cup Teams head back to the beautiful Pocono Mountains this weekend for a visit to one of the most unique tracks on the Sprint Cup Circuit, Pocono Raceway.  This track with 3 Straight-a-Ways and 3 Different Corners makes it Challenging to find a Good Set-Up and is Hard on the Tires, Equipment, and Drivers.  We will Cut to the Chase on this one.  Denny Hamlin Won the Sprint Cup visit in June, Won the August Race in 2009, and is our CubePick to Win this Sunday.

                        Jimmie Johnson

2009 Winner:  Kasey Kahne

Cube Thought:  The Sprint Cup Teams head into California Wine Country for a visit to Infineon Raceway and the 1st Road Course Race of the Season.  After 15 weeks of Ovals, Short Tracks and Superspeedways, the Drivers now get to Turn their Cars "Right".  On the Circuit some Drivers are better than Others on Road Courses and names like Stewart, Gordon, Montoya, and Busch are always near the Top.  And of those Drivers Tony Stewart will Turn "Right" the Fastest and Cross the Line in 1st.

Cube Pick:  Tony Stewart  X     Jimmie Johnson

2009 Winner:  Joey Logano

Cube ThoughtThe Sprint Cup Teams are in New England this weekend at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway "Magic Mile".  With 10 Races left in the "Race to the Chase", Drivers like Dale Earnhardt Jr., Clint Bowyer, and Ryan Newman need to make a move.  And New Hampshire is a Great Place to Start that Move.  In the last 10 New Hampshire Races, 10 different Drivers have Won.  And during that span GM, Ford, Dodge, and Toyota have all crossed the Line in First.  So, anyone can Win at the "Magic Mile".  But much to the Chagrin of those Drivers, we think the Hottest Driver in the Series and former New Hampshire Winner, Denny Hamlin, crosses the Line in First.

Cube ThoughtSaturday Night, Under the Lights, Daytona - It does not get much better than that if you are a NASCAR Fan!  And if you want to see Fireworks this 4th of July Weekend, well make sure you are watching the Last Few Laps in this one!  With the "Race to the Chase" Heating Up, Drivers like Carl Edwards and Mark Martin will do whatever it takes to stay in the Top 12, while Dale Earnhardt Jr., Ryan Newman, and Clint Bowyer who are all Less Than 20 Points Outside of the Chase will do whatever it takes to Get Into the Top 12.  Junior has been quietly having some Nice Finishes lately and we see him Drinking a Cold Coke Saturday Night on the Winner's Podium.

Cube ThoughtSaturday Night, Under the Lights, Outside of Chi-Town in Joliet, Illinois - Grab a Cold Drink, Sit Back in Your Favorite Chair and Enjoy this One.  There have been 9 Sprint Cup Races at Chicagoland and in those Races there have been 7 Different Winners, so there is no Clear Favorite Driver in this One.  But, in those 9 Races a Chevrolet has Crossed the Finish Line First 7 Times.  So when we look at the 4 Races this Season on 1.5 mile Tracks, we find One of those Races was Won by a Chevy and the Driver of that Car was Jimmie Johnson.  Our CubePick to Win on Saturday Night is Jimmie Johnson.
